March 31, 2023: Kathmandu Today
by Ann Shaftel
Today in hazy and damp KTM was a day of Embassies, Art and Nunnery Celebration. Travelling around with Pema Lhundhup Dungse, we visited MONA (Museum of Nepali Art) located in Kathmandu Guest House. The exhibit was about the famous artist Lok Chitrikar, whose studio I visited in October, and contained his drawings, finished Paubha paintings and unfinished paintings, plus non-traditional paintings. The artist was there himself, and patiently, on video, answered my technical questions about his art and questions about empowerment etc. We met with the Director, Curator and Manager, and then enjoyed lunch in the hotel. Next on the day’s agenda was a visit to Tekchokling Nunnery, where Buddhists from around the world had arrived to celebrate the birthday of Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso.
