April 5, 2023: Teaching restoration at a traditional art college, and a visit to Tergar Monastery
Good morning from KTM!
Began the day sharing information about Digital Restoration at a traditional art college, and the students very interesting and accomplished! After my talk and demonstration, they practiced “restoring” damaged wall paintings and thangkas on their cellphones!
Then it was up into the hills above KTM to tour the Tergar Monastery building in progress and to answer some questions about a safe storage area for relics they are designing.
At Tergar I met friends Lilli, who is designing and overseeing the construction, and Karma Chemy Dorje and Karma Shenden who were participants in our Treasure Caretaker Training workshop Preservation of Monastery Treasures, several years ago. Karma Shenden teaches Buddhist philosophy and meditation to the young monks at their new Tergar school.
Then, taxi down the mountain in time to join Dungse Lama Pema, and some of our Nepali Tsum team members for a delicious dinner.
Tomorrow, taxi to beautiful Pharping; invited to advise on a monastery library for traditional texts. The weather is beautiful here.
